US Ambassador signals Trump visit to Greece as Mitsotakis cautions no official confirmation

·

US Ambassador to Athens Kimberly Guilfoyle has said President Donald Trump plans to visit Greece, though no details have been officially confirmed.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Athens premiere of Amazon’s new documentary Melania, Guilfoyle said: “I know the president is going to be coming. And I’m really looking forward to both of them coming to visit Greece. That would be an amazing honour for the country.”

She did not provide further information regarding the timing or scope of the visit.

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, asked about the prospect of a Trump visit during an interview with SKAI TV on Monday evening, said he had no official information about any upcoming trip.

He stressed, however, that Greece’s strategic relationship with the United States is at its strongest point.

Mitsotakis noted that the bilateral relationship extends beyond cooperation with President Trump and includes Greece’s long-standing and stable ties with the US Congress and other American institutions.

He added that he has known Donald Trump since his first term in office and underlined that strategic relations between the two countries are “at their best ever.”
