George Skemperis assumes role as new Consul General of Greece in Sydney

The new Consul General of Greece in Sydney, George Skemperis, officially assumed his duties on August 20.

Mr Skemperis brings with him extensive diplomatic experience, having served at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, at the Embassy of Greece in Abuja, Nigeria, as well as in a number of senior positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens, including the Directorate for Cyprus.

Before his posting to Sydney, Mr Skemperis was Director of the Diplomatic Cabinet of the Deputy Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, overseeing key aspects of Greece’s international engagement and economic outreach.

Academically, he is a graduate of the Department of History & Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ioannina, as well as the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs, Syracuse University, NY, USA, where he completed his postgraduate studies in international relations and negotiations.

The Consul General has expressed his eagerness to connect with the Greek community of Sydney and New South Wales. He emphasised his commitment to working closely with community institutions and organisations “for the benefit of the Greek diaspora.”

Mr Skemperis succeeds outgoing Consul General Yannis Mallikourtis, who completed his term earlier this month.
