The investigation into the murder of Woodville Gardens man Bill Frangos has taken a new turn, with police confirming a suspect was arrested at the home of former Zahra Foundation chief executive Kelly-ann Tansley.
Tansley, who police say is regarded only as a witness, left South Australia for the UK on the day of, or just before, her scheduled interview with Major Crime detectives.
A police spokesman said she “is not regarded as a suspect and will not be detained upon her return to Australia.”
One of the men accused of killing Frangos, 72, was taken into custody at Tansley’s home on April 11, just three days before he and another man were charged with murder, arson and destroying human remains. Both remain remanded in custody.
Frangos’ body was discovered in his Essex St home in November 2024 after a blaze destroyed the property.
Police allege he was killed between 10.30pm and midnight, with the fire deliberately lit hours later. His dog was found unharmed in the backyard.
Neighbours remembered him as a kind and generous man. “He always took my rubbish bins inside if I didn’t bring them in… I’m very sad about what happened to him,” one said.
Another recalled him as “a very friendly guy” who “was always outside saying hi to his neighbours.”
The Zahra Foundation confirmed Tansley ceased employment on April 17, while Offenders Aid and Rehabilitation Services said she also resigned as deputy chair in May.
Despite Tansley’s sudden departure, police stressed she has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
