Australia and Greece advance talks on double taxation agreement in high-level meeting

·

On Wednesday, March 18, Australia’s Ambassador to Greece, Alison Duncan, met with Greece’s Minister of Finance and President of the Eurogroup, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, to discuss strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

The meeting focused on progress towards a bilateral Double Taxation Agreement, as well as the impact of ongoing developments in the Middle East on the global economy.

Discussions around the tax agreement mark a continued effort by both nations to enhance investment and reduce financial barriers for businesses and individuals operating across borders.

Pierrakakis, 42, is regarded as one of New Democracy’s most dynamic figures, credited with major digital reforms that modernised Greek public services.

Their meeting follows a visit to Australia last year by Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Ioannis Loverdos, who sought to strengthen Greece’s engagement with the diaspora and advance bilateral cooperation across key policy areas.
