11-year-old Evangelia Siskou crowned world chess champion

Evangelia Siskou, an 11-year-old chess player from Thessaloniki, Greece has been crowned world champion at the International Chess Federation’s World School Chess Championships 2023 held in Rhodes.

Siskou won in the category for girls up to 13. She achieved 7.5 points in 9 matches (7 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw), finishing ahead of 34 other young chess players.

Siskou, who is part of Thessaloniki’s AMO “Galaxia” club, now ranks third in the world for her age group.

“The young athlete with her performance proves that the future of girls in our sport is optimistic and bright,” The Greek Chess Federation said.
