GCM Schools launch holiday program linking Greek language with history and art

·

The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Schools continue to offer high-quality educational experiences and to strengthen children’s Greek language learning, even during the school holiday period.

On Wednesday, September 24, during the first week of the holidays, students will have the opportunity to visit the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne, where they will tour the historic building, explore the exhibits, and create their own original artworks.

This will be followed by two specially designed museum education workshops for children aged 5–10 years, to be held on Monday, September 29 in Huntingdale and Thursday, October 2 in Balwyn North.

The program, titled “Learning Through Exhibits – History and Arts for Children”, invites participants to become young researchers and explorers.

Through interactive games inspired by the museum’s exhibits, children will discover important moments of Greek history and explore key principles of painting and sculpture. At the same time, they will cultivate creativity, observation skills, and a love of learning, while actively strengthening their use of the Greek language.

Program schedule:

  • Wednesday, September 24, 10am – 1pm, Hellenic Museum, Melbourne CBD
  • Monday, September 29, 9am – 12pm or 9am – 3pm, Huntingdale
  • Thursday, October 2, 9am – 12pm or 9am – 3pm, Balwyn North

This initiative not only supports the maintenance of the Greek language, but also introduces children to the world of museums and the significant archaeological treasures currently on display – many of which have travelled especially from archaeological museums in Greece.

For more information and to reserve a place, please visit the website of the Greek Community of Melbourne or contact the central offices. Places are limited.
