Cypriot community gathers in Sydney to mark 65 years of the Republic of Cyprus

·

The Cyprus Community of New South Wales hosted a special commemoration on Sunday, 5 October 2025, marking 65 years since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus.

The event began with a Divine Liturgy at St Sophia and Three Daughters Greek Orthodox Parish in Surry Hills, presided over by Father Irenaeus Triantis.

A commemorative lunch followed in the church hall, bringing together leaders and friends of the Cypriot and wider Hellenic community.

Among the official guests were Trade Commissioner of Greece to Australia Chrysa Prokopaki, former Australian Ambassador to the United States Arthur Sinodinos, President of the Cyprus Community of NSW Michael Kyriacou, Secretary Kyriakos Panayi, and SEKA NSW Co-President Miranda Adamou, along with several other community leaders and representatives of local organisations.

The gathering honoured the historic significance of 1 October 1960, the day Cyprus gained independence, and reflected on the journey of the Republic over the past six and a half decades — from hardship and division to resilience and hope for reunification.

The Cypriot Community of NSW thanked all those in attendance for their continued support and participation in celebrating the cultural, historical, and national milestones of Cyprus.
