Police asked to investigate donations made to Father John Christodoulos in SA

·

The Sunday Mail has revealed the family of an elderly parishioner has asked police to investigate a $700,000 donation she made to Father John Christodoulos – the former parish priest at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church in Noarlunga, South Australia.

Detectives from the Serious and Organised Financial Crime Investigation Section are conducting a preliminary assessment of the complaint.

Father John is not under formal investigation for wrongdoing, and the donations were purportedly given voluntarily.

This comes as The Advertiser reported that Father John has been suspended by Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

This suspension comes after the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia conducted an internal investigation into allegations Father John led a sordid double life.

The Advertiser reported earlier this month that Father John allegedly obtained hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from devout elderly parishioners, while flouting church teachings by regularly meeting other men at night via gay dating and chat app, Grindr.
