Dr Nick Lygeros gives lecture in Sydney showcasing the value of Greek language

Dr Nick Lygeros gave a lecture on ‘The significance of the Greek language in today’s society and as a second language’ on Sunday, March 5 at the Camelot Lounge in Marrickville, Sydney.

The lecture event has been organised by the Pan-Macedonian Association of NSW. Dr Lygeros was brought to Australia by a local Greek man in Melbourne, Victoria named Kon Antoniadis.

Dr Lygeros is known for his exceptional intellectual giftedness having an IQ level of 189 on the scale of Stanford–Binet.

His Sydney lecture was attended by a number of official guests including the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Ioannis Mallikourtis; Head of the Modern Greek Studies Program at Macquarie University, Dr Patricia Koromvokis; the President of the Pan-Macedonian Association of NSW, Anastasia Karakominakis; the Vice President of the Pan-Macedonian Association of NSW, Peter Papoulidis; and many other representatives of local Greek associations.

Official proceedings were kicked off by emcee Dimitrios Kametopoulos with a minute’s silence to commemorate the victims of Greece’s deadliest train crash last week. This was followed by a number of speeches from the Consul General, Ms Karakominakis and Dr Koromvokis.

Dr Lygeros then took to the stage to present his lecture on the international plight to preserve the Greek language and its richness.

“Greek is not only our language it is our testament,” Dr Lygeros said during his lecture.

At the conclusion of his lecture, Dr Lygeros was presented with an award by Ms Karakominakis and Mr Papoulidis. Attendees were then able to enjoy the light refreshments, coffee and tea on offer.
