Victoria Youth Conference postponed under request by His Eminence

·

Corresponding with guidelines announced by the Federal Government of Australia, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios has postponed the Youth Conference, which was to be held on Saturday 14th of March 2020 at St. John’s College Preston.

Recent developments on the Covid-19 (coronavirus) and the increasing cases in Australia have seen numerous events cancelled across the country.

His Eminence requests the understanding of the youth and their families for this change in program. He believes that the Church upholds a large responsibility for the safety of all people, and do not wish to jeopardise the well-being of the participants.

“The Youth Conference will be rescheduled for the future, until such time as this health concern has been resolved, with the grace and blessing of our God,” a statement released on Friday concluded.

It was announced on Friday that all “non-essential” organised mass gatherings of more than 500 people will be banned across Australia from Monday.

The church has not yet made any statements regarding procession during the Greek Orthodox Church’s celebration of Easter.
