Trump says Iran sent ‘big present’ as US prepares troop surge in the Middle East

United States President Donald Trump claims the US is currently negotiating with Iran to end the conflict. This comes as the Pentagon reportedly prepares to deploy thousands more troops to the Middle East.

“We’re in negotiations right now,” Trump said from the Oval Office.

“They’re doing it along with [US Secretary of State] Marco [Rubio] and [Vice-President] JD [Vance]. We have a number of people involved. And I can tell you, the other side would like to make a deal.” 

These comments come after Iran warned earlier this week it had “special plans” aimed at Trump and the US allies in the Gulf. The warning followed Trump’s earlier threat to strike Iran’s power plants, a threat he has since withdrawn.

Trump also confirmed that the “big present” from Iran, which he described as related to oil and gas, had aided diplomatic efforts to end hostilities.

While Trump declined to reveal the details of this expensive present, he said it was connected to the Strait of Hormuz.

“What it showed me is we’re dealing with the right people,” he said.

Despite Trump’s claims of ongoing negotiations, Iranian officials have denied any talks are taking place, dismissing Trump’s remarks as “fake news.”
