Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been released under investigation after being arrested on Thursday morning on suspicion of misconduct in public office, as UK police continue inquiries linked to his alleged dealings with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that “the arrested man has now been released under investigation,” adding that searches at properties in Norfolk had concluded, while enquiries at his former Windsor residence are ongoing.
Andrew was photographed leaving Aylsham police station shortly after 7pm GMT.
Police are examining allegations that Mountbatten-Windsor shared sensitive information with Epstein during his time as a UK trade envoy, based on documents released by the US justice department. He has denied any wrongdoing and has not directly responded to the latest claims.
King Charles III said the “law must take its course” and confirmed his “full and wholehearted support and cooperation” with police. Prince William and Catherine are understood to support the King’s remarks.
The family of the late Australian-based Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre said the arrest showed “no one is above the law”, while her brother Sky Roberts said: “I think the first step here has been taken by the UK which is amazing.”
