Panathinaikos BC overpower Adelaide 36ers with second-half surge in Sydney

Panathinaikos BC delivered a dominant second-half performance to defeat the Adelaide 36ers 106-89 at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, securing a 2/2 record in the 7th Pavlos Giannakopoulos tournament.

The Greek powerhouse overturned a 39-47 halftime deficit with a blistering 34-point third quarter, outscoring Adelaide 67-42 after the break.

Kendrick Nunn led the way with 26 points, while Jerian Grant recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists. Richaun Holmes added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Nikos Rogkavopoulos impressed with 14 points, including 4/6 from beyond the arc, and eight rebounds.

Juancho Hernangomez (10 points) and Dinos Mitoglou (12) also reached double figures, while Kostas Sloukas provided leadership and six assists despite limited scoring. Overall, Panathinaikos finished with 26 assists and just seven turnovers.

For Adelaide, DJ Vasiljevic starred with 22 points on 6/9 three-point shooting, while Trey Cotton scored a game-high 24 points. Isaac Humphries contributed 12 points, and Dejan Cheatham added 11.

Panathinaikos sealed the win with an 8-0 run early in the final quarter to build an unassailable 81-68 lead, showcasing fluid ball movement and efficiency on both ends.

The Greek contingent was strong at the event, with a large number of Greek fans in attendance, as well as a half-time performance by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Dancers.
