Nectarios Triantis scores from halfway on MLS debut for Minnesota United

Australian-born midfielder-defender Nectarios Triantis has gone viral after netting an extraordinary goal from his own half on debut for Minnesota United.

The 22-year-old struck in the 92nd minute to seal a 3-0 win over San Diego, just weeks after joining the Major League Soccer side in a deal worth more than $4 million AUD.

Triantis began his career with Central Coast Mariners, making 25 appearances before a move to Premier League club Sunderland. He has also played for Hibernian in Scotland, where he scored three career goals before his MLS switch.

The Sydney-born player has represented Australia at under-20 and under-23 level but has recently requested to change his national allegiance to Greece.
