Postecoglou promises swift turnaround after Forest’s Arsenal defeat

·

Ange Postecoglou says Nottingham Forest fans will see a new-look side as early as Wednesday, despite a bruising 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in his first game in charge.

Appointed on Tuesday to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, Postecoglou watched his team fall to two goals from Martín Zubimendi and one from Viktor Gyökeres at the Emirates Stadium.

Forest offered little threat, but the manager insisted that better times are imminent.

“It won’t be months, it won’t be weeks … it will be Wednesday,” he said, targeting the Carabao Cup tie at Swansea. “I cannot afford to waste time. This is not a project … my job is to get us to where I want us as quickly as possible.”

Postecoglou admitted preparation for Arsenal was “very disruptive” after the international break, with only one full training session before the match. He resisted making wholesale changes, using just one new signing due to an enforced switch after Ola Aina’s injury on Nigeria duty.

“You can’t accept defeat and you’ve got to be disappointed by it, but … I can’t fault the players in terms of what they were trying to do,” he said. “Now we put a line through that week and start looking ahead.”

Forest face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday after their midweek cup tie.
