Ange Postecoglou named new Nottingham Forest head coach

·

Ange Postecoglou has returned to the English Premier League, confirmed on Tuesday, September 9, as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach just three months after being sacked by Tottenham.

The 60-year-old Greek Australian, who has won trophies in Australia, Japan, Scotland and England, replaces Nuno Espírito Santo, dismissed late Monday despite guiding Forest to their highest league finish since 1995 and ending a 30-year wait for European football.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis hailed Postecoglou’s record. “We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies,” he said.

“His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey.”

Marinakis, who also owns Olympiacos, has long admired Postecoglou, previously praising him for being the first manager of Greek descent to win the Europa League.

“Wherever he goes, the successes will come,” he said.

Postecoglou led Spurs to that Europa League triumph earlier this year but was dismissed after the club slumped to 17th in the league. Forest currently sit 10th and will face Spurs at the City Ground on December 13.
