Australia-Greece medical ties strengthen with push for mutual recognition of degrees

·

Efforts to enhance Australia-Greece medical cooperation were the focus of a meeting in Athens between Hellenic Medical Society of Australia President Dr Marinis Pirpiris and IVF specialist Dr Konstantinos Pantos with Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos, President of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Discussions included mutual recognition of medical degrees, academic exchanges, and clinical collaboration.

Dr Pirpiris said the initiatives will promote knowledge sharing, research, and rural healthcare access, while helping diaspora doctors reconnect with Greece.

This comes as Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis recently confirmed Australia could be included in Greece’s recognition scheme if a pilot with the US proves successful, stating: “If we see that this ‘works’… the government will move forward with something like this.”
