Archbishop Makarios of Australia meets with Greece’s Health Minister

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia met with Greece’s Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, at the Ministry of Health in Athens on Thursday, June 12.

The two discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly concerning the Greek diaspora and the role of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia.

Archbishop Makarios took the opportunity to thank Minister Georgiadis for attending his recent honorary doctorate ceremony at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

In turn, Minister Georgiadis wished the Archbishop strength in his ongoing pastoral work supporting Hellenism and the Orthodox Church in Australia.

This meeting came after the Archbishop also met with Greece’s Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni on Wednesday, June 11

Archbishop Makarios has been overseas since early June, having participated in a Patriarchal and Synodal Divine Liturgy on Sunday, June 1, held at the Patriarchal Church in Constantinople to mark the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.
