Sydney Olympic and South Melbourne to face off at The Greek Herald Cup in 2024

In an exciting development for football enthusiasts and the Greek community alike, two iconic Greek heritage football clubs, Sydney Olympic FC (SOFC) and South Melbourne FC (SMFC), are set to face off in a highly anticipated match on January 13, 2024.

The thrilling encounter, named The Greek Herald Cup after the esteemed newspaper, will take place at Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah, Sydney.

Both Sydney Olympic and South Melbourne, were recently confirmed among the eight foundation clubs to take part in Australia’s National Second Tier (NST) competition by Football Australia, set to commence in March / April 2025.

In anticipation of the inaugural 2025 NST, Sydney Olympic will take on their interstate rivals, South Melbourne to showcase their immense talent and rich heritage in this historic clash.

The Greek Herald Cup will represent a new chapter in the history of these two great Australian clubs as they are once again elevated to the national stage, playing old rivals for new successes.

The name of the cup is dedicated to The Greek Herald – a newspaper that has served as a main source of information, updates, and announcements for Sydney Olympic and South Melbourne throughout their illustrious histories.
