Two Greek Australian professors named on Greece’s new AI Advisory Committee

Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced the establishment of a new high-level AI (Artificial Intelligence) Advisory Committee.

Among the members of the Committee is John Tasioulas, a Greek Australian Professor of Moral and Legal Philosophy at Oxford University’s School of Philosophy. Mr Tasioulas is the first Director of the Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Timos Sellis, another Greek Australian and current Director of the “Archimedes” Research Unit of the “Athena” Research Centre, is also on the Committee.

Other members include: Constantinos Daskalakis, Kimon Drakopoulos, Vangelis Karkaletsis, Vasso Kinti, George Pagoulatos, Fereniki Panagopoulou, Ioannis Pittas, Andreas Stavropoulos, and Charalambos Tsekeris.

The new Advisory Committee is set to be designed to formulate policy recommendations and outline guidelines for national strategy planning around AI, while focusing on Greece’s economy and society, productivity, innovation, infrastructure, climate crisis management and many more.
