Greece introduces off-airport check-in for cruise passengers

·

Athens International Airport (AIA) is launching a new off-airport check-in service to enhance the travel experience for cruise passengers arriving or departing by air from Athens.

According to ekathimerini.com, this service, developed in partnership with ground service providers Skyserv and Swissport Greece, with support from the Piraeus Port, will connect AIA with the Piraeus Cruise Terminal.

The goal of this initiative is to streamline the check-in process, allowing cruise passengers to enjoy a smoother, stress-free transition to their next destination. It also gives travelers more flexibility in planning their time in Athens, enabling them to take short excursions in or around the Attica region, including central Athens, on departure days.

For arriving cruise passengers, the service includes a shuttle bus that will transport them directly from the airport to their cruise ship. Meanwhile, Skyserv and Swissport Greece will handle their luggage, transporting it separately via trucks to the aircraft apron for easy boarding.

When departing from Greece, cruise passengers will receive their flight boarding passes as soon as they disembark from the ship. Their luggage will be identified and transferred directly from Piraeus to the airport, where it will go through security screening and be loaded onto the aircraft. This seamless service is designed to make travel easier and more efficient for cruise passengers.
