Delta Airlines launches new direct flight from Athens to Boston

·

Athens and Boston are set to become twin cities with the launch of the upcoming direct flight operated by Delta Airlines.

Athens Mayor, Kostas Bakoyannis met with his Boston counterpart, Michelle Wu in his recent trip to the US city, where they announced this decision in the hopes to strengthen ties and promote tourism.

“Athens and Boston are linked with a strong tradition, which is a reminder of our common principles and values,” Bakoyannis said.

“The twinning will create a new, modern and solid bridge of cooperation which will also contribute to the strengthening of economic ties with a positive impact on tourism.”

“Athens can offer unique experiences to American travellers,” he said.

Delta Airlines presented the new direct flight during an event held at the Consulate General of Greece in Boston.

It is the first time in 25 years that there will be a direct flight linking the two cities.

Consul General Stratos Efthimiou said the launch of this flight path was a “viable business opportunity” as it was a “long-standing request” by the Greek diaspora in Boston.

“I wish every success for this flight, which will make it easier for our expatriates to travel to our homeland and will bring high-income tourists to Greece,” he said.
