Ange Postecoglou linked to Saudi Club Al-Ahli amid coaching speculation

·

Former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is reportedly being eyed by Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, as speculation mounts over his next coaching move following his surprise sacking by Spurs—despite leading them to a historic Europa League victory.

According to the UK Telegraph, Al-Ahli, who recently won the AFC Champions League, may be in the market for a new coach if current manager Matthias Jaissle departs for Europe.

The club boasts a star-studded lineup including Ivan Toney, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Edouard Mendy, and finished fifth in the Saudi Pro League.

Postecoglou, who received a reported A$12.4 million payout from Tottenham, including a Champions League qualification bonus, is said to be weighing multiple offers.

While interest from Saudi Arabia is strong, the 59-year-old Australian is reportedly keen to stay in Europe, with possible destinations including Spain or France.

Football reporter Vince Rugari told ABC’s Offsiders that Postecoglou “will want to stick in the Premier League” to prove critics wrong, while former Socceroo Robbie Slater noted his recent success may not be enough for another top Premier League job just yet.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare suggested a club like Ajax could suit Postecoglou’s coaching style, while Inter Milan, who are currently without a manager, may also be an option.

Postecoglou was seen at Lord’s this week watching the World Test Championship Final, keeping a low profile as speculation continues.
