New Netflix series shines light on Ikaria’s centenarians

·

A newly released Netflix docuseries called ‘Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zone’ sees aging expert and bestselling author Dan Buettner travel to areas where people tend to live the longest.

In the four-part series, Buettner takes viewers on a journey to regions known as ‘Blue Zones’, where there are the highest number of centenarians. These areas include Ikaria, Greece; Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; and Loma Linda, California.

After researching these areas for over 20 years, Buetter has found that certain foods and lifestyle choices can have a positive impact on our health. The four principles recognised for living a long life include eating wisely, moving naturally, connecting with others, and having a purpose or outlook.

In the docuseries, the Greeks of Ikaria take naps during the day and eat meals consisting of fava beans and lentils, whilst only eating meat five times per month.

According to Buettner, these locations should provide an insight into how to reach the age of 100 and what journey should be taken to get there.
