Young dancers shine at Kogarah Greek Orthodox Parish’s first cultural fundraiser

·

The Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Kogarah celebrated a milestone on Saturday, June 14 with the success of its inaugural Parish Greek Schools and Dancing School Fundraising Dinner — a vibrant evening that brought together culture, community, and tradition.

The event marked the debut performance of the parish’s newly formed Greek dancing groups, who, despite just five weeks of rehearsal, dazzled guests with their spirited and heartfelt routines.

Their performances were met with enthusiastic applause, showcasing not only their talent but their dedication to preserving Hellenic cultural heritage.

Held in a festive atmosphere, the dinner was attended by His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia, parish priests Fr Athanasios Giatsios and Fr Socrates Dokos, Parish President Nicholas Varvaris, and Georges River Councillor Sam Stratikopoulos, alongside proud parents, grandparents, and community members.

In his address, His Grace and parish leaders extended warm congratulations to Greek School Coordinator Katerina Vetsikas and her team for orchestrating such a successful event. Special recognition was given to Kostas Papoulidis, the parish’s Greek Dancing Instructor, and Ioanna Diamadis for their unwavering commitment and guidance in preparing the students.

“We are incredibly proud of our children and the cultural legacy they are embracing and carrying forward,” the parish said on Facebook. “Your passion is truly reflected in the performances we witnessed.”

The evening was not only a celebration of cultural achievement but also a vital fundraiser in support of the parish’s Greek language and dance programs.

With the success of this first event, the Parish of Kogarah is looking forward to many more opportunities for its youth to shine, inviting all families to continue supporting these important programs that nurture both community connection and cultural identity.
