Boos for Postecoglou as Forest fall to Midtjylland in Europa League

·

Ange Postecoglou faced boos and chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” as Nottingham Forest suffered a shock 3-2 Europa League defeat to Danish side Midtjylland at the City Ground on Friday (AEST).

The Australian manager remains winless after six games in charge, with frustration spilling over when Valdemar Byskov netted the visitors’ decisive third goal in the 88th minute following a driving run from Dario Osorio.

Forest pulled one back in stoppage time through a Chris Wood penalty, but it was not enough to prevent another damaging loss.

“Nothing surprises me in football anymore,” Postecoglou said after the match. “I heard. They’re fans. They want to see their team win and they’re entitled to their opinion… I’m a big boy. I can take it. We’ve just got to keep going.”

Midtjylland opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Ousmane Diao, before Forest quickly equalised via Dan Ndoye. But the Danes struck back almost immediately and, despite dominating possession, Forest could not recover.

The result heaps pressure on Postecoglou, who looked stunned on the sidelines as fans left early.
