Antetokounmpo leads Greece past Israel into EuroBasket quarter-finals

·

Greece advanced to the EuroBasket Quarter-Finals with an 84-79 victory over Israel in Riga, securing the last remaining spot in the top eight.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was unstoppable, delivering 37 points on 18-of-23 shooting with 10 rebounds, extending his streak of 25+ point games to ten. “They couldn’t stop him tonight, and we kept feeding him,” teammate Tyler Dorsey said.

Coach Vassilis Spanoulis praised his side’s resilience but warned of the challenge ahead: “Everybody knows the Lithuanian school of basketball … it will be a very tough game. It’s time to break this curse,” he added, referring to Greece’s 16-year medal drought.

The win marks Greece’s fourth straight Quarter-Finals appearance and ninth in the past ten EuroBasket tournaments. They will next face Lithuania on Tuesday, September 9.
