Disgraced former Adelaide GP Mario Athinodorou dies in Indonesia

·

Mario Athinodorou, a former Adelaide GP banned for 13 years over repeated sexual misconduct against female patients, has died in Indonesia.

Bali police confirmed his death occurred on July 28 on the island of Lombok, in West Nusa Tenggara province. It’s understood Athinodorou, a father of four, was there on holiday.

The former doctor was struck off the medical register after a tribunal found he had breached professional boundaries with 10 women over at least 15 years at Harbour Medical Services in North Haven.

He was also convicted of aggravated indecent assault in 2018 for kissing three patients on the lips.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency described the 13-year ban as “one of the highest ever for a health practitioner,” also prohibiting him from offering any other health-related services to women during the period.

Athinodorou’s body has reportedly been transferred to a funeral home in Denpasar.
