Lipsi labelled Greece’s secret island gem of 2024

·

The French newspaper Le Figaro has spotlighted Lipsi, the main island in a chain of around 30 isles, in its 2024 list of Greece’s “secret” islands, calling them “beautiful strangers.”

According to tovima.com, le Figaro praises Lipsi’s exotic islets, highlighting their beauty that captivates visitors. The article emphasizes the picturesque, unexplored corners of the eastern Aegean.

Fotis Mangos, the mayor of Lipsi, stated, “Οur priority, alongside preserving natural beauty, is protecting the environment and creating quality living conditions for both residents and tourists. Through various initiatives, we have made Lipsi a model of water sufficiency, despite nationwide drought conditions.”

A state-of-the-art remote monitoring and control system has been installed to detect leaks, monitor energy performance, and record water consumption. An eight-kilometer extension of the water supply network will soon begin, aiming to ensure every household has potable water and that the island achieves 100% water autonomy.

These initiatives have resulted in a significant reduction in water consumption and waste, along with increased production. “The enhanced quality of our destination has extended the tourist season and boosted arrivals this June compared to 2023,” Mayor Mangos added.

In addition to environmental projects, Lipsi is innovating in tourism promotion. A new music video blending traditional island music with rap, filmed on Lipsi, has already garnered over 230,000 views, showcasing the island’s cultural and natural allure.
