Paris 2024 Olympic medals to feature Parthenon and Eiffel tower

·

The new Olympic medals for the Paris 2024 Olympic games will contain a portrayal of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece, alongside France’s famous Eiffel Tower.

The design of the medals, which was overseen by French jeweller Chaumet, is composed of metal salvaged from the Eiffel Tower during twentieth-century renovations.

Since the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the reverse side of all Olympic medals has included a picture of Nike, the Greek goddess of triumph, combined with a portrayal of Athens’ Parthenon; the Paris Games will do the same, putting the Eiffel Tower next to the Parthenon.

Different to previous years, both the Olympic and Paralympic medals will share one medal face for 2024.

Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ President, Tony Estanguet, said the decision was symbolic of a “coming together” of the two events.
