Leader of SYRIZA, Stefanos Kasselakis has criticised the government’s bill for not granting diaspora Greeks the right to run for office.
Kasselakis addresses Greek-Australians, Greek-Americans and citizens abroad, lamenting the New Democracy government’s refusal to grant parliamentary seats via a social media post.
“Once again, the New Democracy government is refusing to give you seats in Parliament. Refusing to give you the right to run for office and to represent your community from where you live,” Kasselakis said.
“SYRIZA is pushing to change the law so each region of the diaspora can be represented by an elected representative of your choice. By each of you if you wish to serve your homeland in public affairs. New Democracy simply says ‘no’ – and with no explanation.”
Kasselakis then made another post on social media, highlighting that SYRIZA will continue to fight for the Greek diaspora’s rights to be equal citizens.
He referred to the postal vote and the rights of Greeks abroad.
To our fellow Greek-Americans, Greek-Australians; to our fellow Greek citizens living abroad in Europe and elsewhere; to the many Greek expats and the Greek diaspora all over the world:
