Sydney gala to commemorate bicentenary of the Exodus of Messolonghi

·

The Philanthropic Association of Western Sterea Hellas ‘Messolonghi’ will host a special gala dance later this month to commemorate 200 years since the historic Exodus of Messolonghi, one of the defining moments of the Greek War of Independence.

The commemorative event will take place on Saturday, May 30 at 6.30pm at Hermes Lounge in Kogarah, Sydney and is expected to bring together members of the Greek Australian community to honour the legacy and sacrifice associated with the 1826 exodus.

The Exodus of Messolonghi, which occurred on 10 April 1826 after a prolonged Ottoman siege, remains one of the most symbolic acts of resistance during the Greek Revolution and has become synonymous with courage, freedom and national identity.

Organisers say the evening will feature live entertainment, including an overseas guest performer, bouzouki and clarino music, DJ Angelo K and performances by Greek dance groups.

Tickets are priced at $80 for adults and $40 for children under 12, with food, beer, wine, soft drinks and entertainment included.

The association has encouraged community members to attend the milestone celebration honouring the bicentenary of the historic event and the enduring spirit of Messolonghi.

Event Details:
  • When: Saturday, 30 May 2026, 6.30pm
  • Where: Hermes Lounge, 20 Belgrave Street, Kogarah
  • Tickets: Adults $80 | Children under 12 $40
